In Western countries, most of the people are fond of having a tanned appearance. However, people in Eastern countries such as India, China, Korea, etc. do not favour a tanned look. They consider it to be unaesthetic, unappealing and unattractive. Thus, when the summer season arrives, many people complain about sun tanned skin. So, we have come up with some home remedies for tanning.

There are some natural treatments that you can try. There are many simple and easy natural treatments that can lighten a sun tan and give back a lighter complexion.

1. Lemon Juice
Due to its natural bleaching properties, lemon is highly effective in treating sunburn.
1.Squeeze a lemon and apply some juice on the affected skin area.
2.Allow it to dry and then wash the area off with water.
Yoghurt is very efficient in treating a sun tan. It cools the skin and reduces redness. It also tightens the pores.
1.Mix a cup of plain yoghurt with the juice of one cucumber and a tomato.
2.To this mixture, add half a cup of gram flour.
3.Apply it on the affected area.
4.Leave it dry and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Simply applying some fresh yoghurt on the skin daily just before taking a bath also works wonders. For better results, add tomato juice as well as lime juice to the yoghurt.
3. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera gel is very effective and will lighten the skin within a week. However, it has to be applied daily to the affected area. It also assists in cleansing and nourishing the skin.
Apply fresh aloe vera gel or the one from the store on the affected skin areas before going to bed.
In the morning, wash the skin with lukewarm water.
Raw potato is a very effective product for treating sun tanned skin. It is rich in vitamin C and hence, acts as a natural bleaching agent. It also helps in soothing sunburn.
Alternatively, you can also add some lemon juice to the potato paste before applying it.

For best results, make a paste using rose water instead of plain water. You can also add some lime juice and yoghurt into the paste for skin lightening.
Due to the cooling effect that cucumber juice has on skin, it helps in reducing a sun tan. Cucumbers soothe the skin and help eliminate a suntan. And the vitamin C present in cucumbers keeps the skin well moisturised.
Milk products like milk or milk cream are very helpful in treating sun tanned skin.
Take a small amount of milk and add to it a pinch of turmeric. Mix it with some lemon juice.
Apply this solution on the sun burnt areas and allow it to dry.
Rinse it off with water. This will give you instant relief from a tough sun tan.
Sandalwood is commonly used in several beauty products. Due to its skin lightening and anti-aging properties, it is used for removing a sun tan. It is an effective skin cleanser and helps you in maintaining a glowing complexion.
A paste made from almonds can be used to cleanse, scrub and lighten your skin tone.
Take five to six almonds and soak them overnight in water.
In the morning, blend them with a little milk to make a paste.

Make a mixture of oatmeal powder along with buttermilk.
